Cradle of the great debuts of the fathers of Italian melodrama, from Gluck to Rossini, from Donizetti to Verdi, the Teatro Argentina returns to host opera with Pietro Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana. The performance will take place on 21st June next, on the European Music Day.
Under the baton of Maestro Muglialdo, an exceptional series of young singers will take their turn on the stage, the past winners of the “Ottavio Ziino” International Lyric Competition, which next November will reach its 14th edition.
The production – which will see the special presence on stage of the Mascagni family – will pay tribute to the Sicilian puppet theatre, the secular tradition of the “Opera dei Pupi”, of which Cavalleria Rusticana (by Giovanni Verga) has been a repertoire title.
